Don.....RADIO ACTION ROCK AND TALK (Platter and Chatter) - September 11-19
September 11, 2019 07:00 AM PDT
Friends: Today is 9-11. Nineteen men hijacked four fuel-loaded US commercial airplanes bound for west coast destinations. A total of 2,977 people were killed in New York City, Washington, DC and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
At the World Trade Center (WTC) site in Lower Manhattan, 2,753 people were killed when hijacked American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 were intentionally crashed into the north and south towers, or as a result of the crashes.
Of those who perished during the initial attacks and the subsequent collapses of the towers, 343 were New York City firefighters, 23 were New York City police officers and 37 were officers at the Port Authority.
The victims ranged in age from two to 85 years. Approximately 75-80% of the victims were men.
At the Pentagon in Washington, 184 people were killed when hijacked American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the building.
Near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, 40 passengers and crew members aboard United Airlines Flight 93 died when the plane crashed into a field. It is believed that the hijackers crashed the plane in that location, rather than their unknown target, after the passengers and crew attempted to retake control of the flight deck.
Today we remember this event and take a moment to think about the senseless loss of life.
This is the Rock and Talk program. This program comes from the archives and does not have a 9-11 theme. However, we DO remember and hope that in our lifetime, we never see this type of attack happen again.

Don for the gang at RA.....
Three times each week, Big Daddy Donald Roberts and the swinging men from the Action Den, bring you GOLDEN OLDIES from the studios of Radio Action. Listen to some of the greatest music of all time with emphasis on the '60's and '70's.
During the Radio Action ROCK AND TALK program, Al Murphy visits on the 20's with RETROSPECTIVE - a 20/20 look back on issues of interest to Al, and hopefully you as well. Al also returns later in the program with SPORT DE JOUR - a look at everything "sport."
Michael Godin from Treasure Island Oldies stops by at the top of the hour with ROCK AND ROLL NEWS and James Murphy, all the way from Cambridge England, provides listeners with spectacular "choons" during his MISSING IN ACTION segment heard at the 25 minute mark of the first hour of the show.
Yours truly, Big Daddy fills in all the gaps with light banter and awesome music.
Radio Action - ROCK, ROLL AND REMEMBER is a program of mostly music that will keep you rocking and rolling - a fast paced two hours of some of the greatest hits of all time.
And Radio Action - SOUND TRACK OF THE SIXTIES looks at that incredible decade of music, featuring all the hits of our youth in a fast moving hour (plus) of survey countdowns. It is a blast!
Big Daddy Donald Roberts: I am a retired print plant manager, who has a love of music and radio - in 1967 I went to broadcasting school, and earned my diploma. Then real life kicked in, and I found a job at a printing company, where I stayed for the next 38 years. I have always had some kind of home studio, and it is there where donspodradio was born. Now I can do what I love, and do it for people who also love the music and listen to the program each week. Al Murphy is also a retiree from the same company - I was in Manufacturing and he in Human Resources! Al resides in Fergus, Ontario, which is a little bit west of Toronto - I on the other hand, live in Coquitlam, British Columbia, a bedroom community of Vancouver. When I started the donspodradio websites back in February, 2006, Al was the very first visitor - it wasn't long before he had recorded some promos for the station, and as they say, the rest is history. Now, every week Al drops by on the 20's with RETROSPECTIVE - his look back at issues of interest to him, and I hope, you as well. Every once in a while, Al either co-hosts a program, or takes over entirely - and his love of the music and information of the times shows through! It takes a bit of engineering to stretch the string tight between the two tin can microphones that link our studios, but it is well worth the effort as I am sure you will agree. So, please join us weekly, as we rock to the sounds of GREAT OLDIES - 5 hours each week right here! Over 8 years in podcasting, and still going strong! We hope you enjoy the weekly program and will take the time to email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or through this service provider. Rock on. The Real Big Daddy, Donald Roberts, and the Little Irishman, Al Murphy.
